An existing mold is usually the fastest route when its dimensions, capacity, ergonomics, nesting and logo area fit the program. Custom tooling becomes relevant when a brand needs a proprietary shape, unique set architecture, controlled storage case or performance that the existing catalog cannot provide.
Before tooling, confirm drawings, material shrinkage assumptions, texture, draft, wall-thickness range, gate position, logo method, stacking clearance and ownership terms. Prototype or first-off samples should be measured against the drawing and tested in the complete set. A plate that passes dimensional inspection can still fail the project if it rattles in the case or prevents the lid from closing.
